INTRODUCTION
Jason: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Filipino learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Jason: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question Do you speak Filipino? In Filipino this is
Mayumi: Marunong ka ba mag tagalaog?
Jason: The first word in the question is
Mayumi: Marunong
Jason: meaning something like know how in English.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) Marunong
Jason: Listen again and repeat.
Mayumi: Marunong

Jason: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is

Jason: To say ""no"", in a simple way, just say:
Mayumi: Hindi e.
Jason: Which is like saying No in English. Let's hear it slowly.
Mayumi: (Slowly) Hindi e.
Jason: And one more time at normal speed:
Mayumi: Hindi e.
Jason: Now, let's break down our original response from the beginning. The first word:
Mayumi: OO
Jason: means Yes.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) OO
Jason: Now repeat

Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace a little. Say Yes, I speak fluently.

Jason: To expand on the pattern, replace fluently with a lot.

Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the word for fluently. Say Yes, I speak a lot.

Jason: To expand on the pattern, replace a lot with well.
Mayumi: mabuti
Jason: well
Mayumi: (slow) mabuti (regular) mabuti
Jason: Listen to the phrase again, this time with well

Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace word for a lot. Say Yes, I speak well.

QUIZ
Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting the Philippines and someone asks you if you speak Filipino . You want to answer that you speak a little. Respond to the question.
Mayumi: Marunong ka ba mag tagalaog? (five seconds) OO, nagsasalita ako ng kaunti.
Jason: Now you want to answer that you speak fluently. Respond to the question.
Mayumi: Marunong ka ba mag tagalaog? (five seconds) OO, nagsasalita ako ng matatas.
Jason: You want to answer that you speak a lot. Answer the speaker's question.

Jason: Now you want to answer that you speak well. Respond to the question.
