INTRODUCTION
Jason: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Filipino learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Lesson focus

Jason: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question What do you do? In Filipino this is
Mayumi: Anong trabaho mo?
Jason: The first word in the question is
Mayumi: Anong
Jason: meaning what's in English.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) Anong
Jason: Listen again and repeat.
Mayumi: Anong

Jason: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Mayumi: trabaho
Jason: meaning job/work.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) trabaho
Jason: Now repeat.
Mayumi: trabaho

Jason: Listen to the the first 2 words of the question and repeat.

Jason: means something like I or I'm or me.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) Ako
Jason: Now repeat
Mayumi: Ako

Jason: And after that
Mayumi: ay
meaning something like is.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) ay
Jason: Now repeat.
Mayumi: ay

Jason: And after that
Mayumi: isang
Jason: meaning one.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) isang
Jason: Now repeat.
Mayumi: isang

Jason: And next
Mayumi: guro
Jason: which means teacher.

Jason: To expand on the pattern, replace teacher with Businessman.

Jason: Listen to the phrase again, this time with Businessman
Mayumi: Ako ay isang negosyante.
Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace teacher. Say I'm a Businessman.

Jason: To expand on the pattern, replace Businessman with Doctor.

Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the name Businessman. Say I'm a Doctor.

Jason: To expand on the pattern, replace Doctor with Pilot.

Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace Doctor. Say I'm a Pilot.
