INTRODUCTION
Jason: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Filipino learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Lesson focus

Jason: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question How are you? In Filipino this is
Mayumi: Kamusta ka na?
Jason: The first word in the question is
Mayumi: Kamusta
Jason: meaning something like How in English.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) Kamusta
Jason: Listen again and repeat.
Mayumi: Kamusta
{Pause}
Jason: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Mayumi: ka
Jason: meaning something like you.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) ka
Jason: Now repeat.
Mayumi: ka

Jason: Listen to the the first 2 words of the question and repeat.
Mayumi: Kamusta ka

Jason: meaning something like already.

Jason: Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:
Mayumi: mabuti
Jason: meaning something like good or fine.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) mabuti
Jason: Now repeat
Mayumi: mabuti
{Pause}
Jason: And next
Mayumi: ako
Jason: meaning something like I.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) ako
Jason: Now repeat.
Mayumi: ako
{Pause}
Jason: Listen to the speaker say, I'm fine., and then repeat.
Mayumi: mabuti ako.
{pause}
Jason: To expand on the pattern, replace fine with okay.
Mayumi: okey
Jason: okay
Mayumi: (slow) okey (regular) okey
Jason: Listen to the phrase again, this time with okay
Mayumi: okey ako.
Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace fine. Say I'm okay.

Mayumi: okey ako.
Jason: To use a different phrase, replace okay with doing well.
Mayumi: ayos lang
Jason: doing well
Mayumi: (slow) ayos lang (regular) ayos lang
Jason: Listen to the phrase again, this time with doing well
Mayumi: ayos lang ako.
Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the word for okay. Say I'm doing well.

Jason: To use a different phrase, replace doing well with so-so.
Mayumi: di mabuti at di rin masama
Jason: so-so
Mayumi: (slow) di mabuti at di rin masama (regular) di mabuti at di rin masama
Jason: Listen to the phrase again, this time with so-so
Mayumi: di mabuti at di rin masama ako.
Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the phrase for doing well. Say I'm so-so.

Jason: You want to ask someone how they are doing. Ask the question
