INTRODUCTION
Jason: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Filipino learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Lesson focus

Jason: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question What's wrong? In Filipino this is
Mayumi: May problema ba?
Jason: The first word in the question is
Mayumi: May
Jason: meaning something like Have or to have in English.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) May
Jason: Listen again and repeat.
Mayumi: May

Jason: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Mayumi: problema
Jason: meaning problem.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) problema
Jason: Now repeat.
Mayumi: problema

Jason: Listen to the the first 2 words of the question and repeat.

Jason: Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:
Mayumi: Pagod
Jason: means tired.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) Pagod
Jason: Now repeat
Mayumi: Pagod

Jason: And after that
Mayumi: ako
Jason: meaning something like I.
Mayumi: (Slow, by syllable) ako
Jason: Now repeat.
Mayumi: ako
Jason: Listen to the speaker say, I'm tired., and then repeat.
Mayumi: Pagod ako.

Jason: To expand on the pattern, replace tired with sleepy.
Mayumi: inaantok
Jason: sleepy
Mayumi: (slow) inaantok (regular) inaantok
Jason: Listen to the phrase again, this time with sleepy
Mayumi: inaantok ako.
Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace tired. Say I'm sleepy.

Jason: To expand on the pattern, replace sleepy with hungry.
Mayumi: nagugutom
Jason: hungry
Mayumi: (slow) nagugutom (regular) nagugutom
Jason: Listen to the phrase again, this time with hungry
Mayumi: nagugutom ako.
Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the word for sleepy. Say I'm hungry.

Jason: To make another phrase, replace hungry with thirsty.
Mayumi: nauuhaw
Jason: thirsty

Jason: Listen to the phrase again, this time with thirsty

Jason: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the word for hungry. Say I'm thirsty.

Jason: Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting the Philippines and someone asks you what's wrong. You want to answer I'm tired.. Respond to the question.

Jason: You want to say I'm hungry.. . Answer the speaker's question.

Jason: Imagine you're thirsty. Respond to the question.
Mayumi: May problema ba? (five seconds) Nauuhaw ako.
Jason: Now you want to ask someone what's wrong. Ask the question
