Filipino Survival Phrases Lesson 35 - Using the Post Office in the Philippines, part 1.
In today's lesson, we're going to take a trip to the post office. Now, the post office in the Philippines is also "Post office."
And today, we're going to work on getting your postcards, letters, and packages home. The expression to accomplish this is "I'd like to send this to," and then the desired country or place. For today's lesson, we'll use New York.
In Filipino, "I'd like to send this to New York" is Gusto ko ipadala ito sa New York.
Gusto ko ipadala ito sa New York.
Let's break it down by syllable: Gusto ko ipadala ito sa New York.
Now, let's hear it once again: Gusto ko ipadala ito sa New York.
The first word Gusto means "want."
Let's break down this word and hear it one more time: Gusto.
Gusto.
And, Gusto.
This is followed by Ko, which in English is "my."
Ko.
Ko.
And, Ko.
Followed by Ipadala, which means "to send."
Let's break down the word and hear it one more time: Ipadala.
Ipadala.
And, Ipadala.
Then followed by Sa, which in English means "in."
Let's hear it slowly now: Sa.
And again, Sa.
Then, followed by "New York."
So, to recap here, we have Gusto ko ipadala ito sa New York.
Now, we can build this up a bit by adding in the words for what you would like to send. For example, postcards, letters, and packages. So, let’s start there.
The word for "postcard" in Filipino is also Postcard. So, the expression would now sound like this: Gusto ko magpadala ng postcard sa New York.
Gusto ko magpadala ng postcard sa New York.
And, Gusto ko magpadala ng postcard sa New York.
Now, let's hear it once again: Gusto ko magpadala ng postcard sa New York.
Notice the position of postcard.
And now, let's try "letter" in Filipino, which is Sulat.
Sulat.
And, Sulat.
And finally, we have the word for "package," in Filipino is also "package."
Now, the "package" requires a closer look which we'll do in the next lesson.
One phrase that can be closely related to what we have learned today is Kelan ito dadating doon? which means "When will this reach there?"
Let’s break it down by syllable: Kelan ito dadating doon?
Kelan ito dadating doon?
Kelan means "when"
Ito means "this."
Dadating means "will come."
Don means "there."
Let’s break down this phrase once again: Kelan ito dadating doon?
Let's hear it one more time: Kelan ito dadating doon?
