Becky: Terms Related to Going Out and Having Fun
Becky: Hi everyone, and welcome back to FilipinoPod101.com. I'm Becky.
Jay: And I'm Jay!
Becky: This is Must-Know Filipino Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 21. In this lesson you'll learn terms related to going out and having fun.
Becky: Because saying "I am going to have fun" is not fun to listen to, these terms are different ways to say that you’re going to enjoy yourself and have fun!
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Becky: The expressions you'll be learning in this lesson are:
Jay: gimik
Jay: kita kits
Jay: rampa
Jay: lakwatsa
Becky: Jay, what's our first expression?
Jay: gimik
Becky: literally meaning "gimmick." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "hang out, leisure activity."
Jay: [SLOW] gimik [NORMAL] gimik
Becky: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: gimik

Becky: Use this slang expression to describe the activity of hanging out with friends somewhere. The image that comes to mind is usually a bar. Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] Kailan ang sunod na gimik? Pwede bang isama ang GF ko? [SLOW] Kailan ang sunod na gimik? Pwede bang isama ang GF ko?
Becky: "When are we hanging out next? Can I bring my girlfriend with me?"
Jay: [NORMAL] Kailan ang sunod na gimik? Pwede bang isama ang GF ko?
Becky: Okay, what's the next expression?
Jay: kita kits
Becky: It’s an abbreviation for
Jay: kita kita
Becky: meaning “see each other." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "see you."

Becky: Use this slang expression to say that you’ll meet each other at a specified time or place.
Becky : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] Sige, kita kits na lang next month. Pag balik ko sa bakasyon mula sa Japan. [SLOW] Sige, kita kits na lang next month. Pag balik ko sa bakasyon mula sa Japan.
Becky: "Ok, see you again next month, after I come back from my vacation to Japan."
Jay: [NORMAL] Sige, kita kits na lang next month. Pag balik ko sa bakasyon mula sa Japan.
Becky: Okay, what's our next expression?
Jay: rampa
Becky: literally meaning "ramp." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "to showcase, to gimmick."
Jay: [SLOW] rampa [NORMAL] rampa
Becky: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: rampa

Becky: Use this slang expression when you’re about to have fun or showcase your skills. The image is similar to a model doing a catwalk down a runway ramp.
Becky : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] Ra-rampa na kami bukas, bakasyon na sa Bali Islands, yahoo! [SLOW] Ra-rampa na kami bukas, bakasyon na sa Bali Islands, yahoo!
Becky: "Tomorrow, we will be partying it up on vacation in the Bali Islands, yahoo!"
Jay: [NORMAL] Ra-rampa na kami bukas, bakasyon na sa Bali Islands, yahoo!
Becky: Okay, what's the last expression?
Jay: lakwatsa
Becky: literally meaning "truancy." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to play hooky, ditch school."
Jay: [SLOW] lakwatsa [NORMAL] lakwatsa
Becky: Listeners, please repeat.

Becky: Use this slang expression to describe a person who roams around and doesn't want to do anything productive. Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] Saan naman nagsipunta ang mga bata? Puro na lang lakwatsa, di na nagsisipag-aral [SLOW] Saan naman nagsipunta ang mga bata? Puro na lang lakwatsa, di na nagsisipag-aral
Becky: "Where did the kids go this time? They keep on ditching school, they don't study."
