Kamusta kayo, ako si Erica. Hi everybody! I’m Erica.
Welcome to FilipinoPod101.com’s “Filipino sa 3 minuto”. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Filipino.
In the last lesson, we learned how to ask "What" questions in Filipino.
In this lesson, we‘re going to ask “where” questions.
For example, what if you want to ask your friends "Where are you going?" Then you will ask them: “Saan kayo pupunta?”
[slowly] “Saan kayo pupunta?”
Let’s take a closer look at this question.
First we have: “saan,” which means "where". However, “saan” is used only to ask about a destination. Next is “kayo,” which is the plural "you" in Filipino. Lastly there is “pupunta” meaning “to go”. Simple, right?
So, altogether it is “Saan ka pupunta?”, “Where are you going?"
Just like the previous “ano,” “saan” also has a plural form to ask about multiple destinations. It is: “saan-saan.” “Saan-saan kayo pupunta sa Japan?” Which places are you going to visit in Japan?

Now, to ask about locations and not destinations, we add the prefix “na” to “saan.” “Nasaan.” It is the question word you use to ask someone where he or she is “Nasaan ka?” “Where are you?” Or to ask about the location of an object or place: “Nasaan ang ospital.” “Where is the hospital.” We talked about locations back in lesson 13.
Now it’s time for Erica’s tips.
Here’s another useful form of the verb, “magpunta”: papunta. It means in the process of going or about to go. You can use this when your friend is waiting and is asking you “Nasaan ka na?” “Where are you (now)?:
“Papunta na ako.”
This is what Filipinos say to mean “I’m on my way.”
Now you can avoid getting lost!
In the next lesson, we’ll learn more about asking questions, this time using "Who" in Filipino.
I’ll be waiting for you in the next Filipino sa 3 minuto lesson.
Hanggang sa muli!
