John: Welcome to 3-Minute Filipino Season 1, Lesson 20 - Talking About Your Likes. In this lesson, you'll learn how to ask and answer affirmatively to the question, “Do you like…?” in Filipino.

John: Here's the informal way to ask "Do you like chocolate?" in Filipino.
Camille: [Normal] Mahilig ka ba sa chokolate?
John: First is a word meaning "like."
Camille: [Normal] mahilig [Slow] mahilig
John: Next is the phrase meaning "you" when used in a question.
Camille: [Normal] ka ba [Slow] ka ba
John: Next is the word literally meaning "in."
Camille: [Normal] sa [Slow] sa
John: Last is the word meaning "chocolate."
Camille: [Normal] chokolate [Slow] chokolate
John: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning "Do you like chocolate?"
Camille: [Slow] Mahilig ka ba sa chokolate? [Normal] Mahilig ka ba sa chokolate?
John: Now, imagine you're speaking to a stranger. Here's the formal way to ask, "Do you like sweets?"

John: Next is a phrase which makes the question sound polite.
